About Sono HSG The most commonly performed procedure to determine fallopian tube patency (open or blocked) is a fluoroscopic hysterosalpingogram (HSG). This method consists of infusion or filling of the entire uterine cavity with radiopaque (x-ray) dye allowing for fluoroscopic imaging of each fallopian tube and the uterine cavity. The limitations of this procedure include that it must be performed by a radiologist or someone trained in radiographic imaging, radiation exposure, risk of allergic reactions to the radiopaque dye, and is performed in a medical imaging center.
